Sisi: Egypt will not tolerate any threat to Somalia

CAIRO – 21 January 2024: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received Sunday Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud who is holding a visit to Egypt to discuss bolstering bilateral cooperation as well as regional developments.

 

 

In a joint press conference with Somali counterpart, President Sisi said that Egypt did not oppose Ethiopia having access to the sea through Somalia, Eritrea or Djibouti. Rather, he stressed that Egypt opposed that Ethiopia illegally put its hand on territories of other countries.

The chief of state added that Egypt would not allow the threatening of Somalia, which is member of the Arab League, saying “don’t test Egypt in that regard.”

The president congratulated Somalia on eradicating terrorism, canceling debts, and lifting the ban on arms and military equipment supply saying that the talks with Somali counterpart covered political, economic and military cooperation.
